We teach the Ryukyu Kempo style of martial art. It originated in Okinawa in about 700 AD and is the forerunner of modern day Japanese karate. It is strongly self-defense oriented rather than sports oriented.
It uses striking and grappling more commonly associated with Karate as well as locking and some throwing more commonly associated with Jujitsu.
Your instructor is Jim Hess. He has been training in the martial arts since 1995 and has earned the rank Nidan, or 3rd degree black belt in Ryukyu Kempo and Sandan or fourth degree black belt in ShorinRyu. He has been teaching since 1999.
Jim's ongoing training includes studying with Dave Daniels, 7th Dan in Ryukyu Kempo, "Papa" Paul Keller, 7th Dan in Shorin Ryu.
Jim is presently a regional director with Hogan Karate International.
All ranks up to black belt are awarded through Jim Hess and Dragon Tiger Kempo Karate. Ranks of Black Belt and above are awarded through Hogan Karate International and Grand Master Jack Hogan.
